10 Ways to shift your energy

It has been a tough couple of weeks as a woman.


With everything in the news about essentially the hatred of women: the tragic death of Sarah Everard, the misogynoir towards Meghan Markle and the trending of #notall men. Sandwiched between International Women's Day and Mother's Day.


Phew! It's been a lot and it's been extremely triggering for all of us I'm sure.


So I wanted to create this blog to share some ideas of things you can do to re-regulate your nervous system and shift your energy if you're struggling.


NOTE: It is absolutely MORE than ok to be in whatever energy and emotion you are in right now. You feelings are completely valid and I hope you are able to hold space for them in a loving and kind way. This is for anyone that is feeling stagnant in their energy and wants to do something to try and feel a little better. You can take what works for you, and leave what doesn't.


  1. Dance in your bedroom to your favourite empowering song/playlist. Jump around like no one is watching you and let it all out. You don't need to look pretty. You don't need to be good at dancing. Just dance. Move. Jump. Enjoy yourself!

  2. Reach your arms above your head wherever you are (year right now) and stretch up as tall as humanly possible. Reach your arms over to one side and then over to the other. And finish with a big yawn. Feels good doesn't it?

  3. Take a hot shower or bath. Imagine all the energy that feels icky washing off your body. Imagine yourself scrubbing it all away and cleansing and refreshing your energy. Think of this as an energy reset. This is something I like to visualise everyday when I shower.

  4. Shake your body. Jump around and shake your arms, hands, shoulders and legs. This is really good for releasing trauma stored within the body. You might feel silly but trust me it's so cathartic and powerful.

  5. Stop what you're doing and take 5-10 deep replenishing breaths. Close your eyes if you like and really focus on each part of the breath. Tune everything else out for these next few moments while you focus on the breath. Breath in through the nose and out through the nose. Do this 5-10 times (or as many as you like until you feel the stress melting away) This is a really great way to regulate our nervous system.

  6. Sing at the top of your lungs! The car is a great place for this but please be careful! (I get distracted SO easily when I drive so can't get too lost in those Beyonce tunes). It feels so good to let it all out. You don't need to be a good singer, sing in tune or even sing the right words! There's just something so freeing and refreshing about singing along to a classic as loud as you can.

  7. Meditate for 10-15 minutes. Wherever you are right now, move to a different place/position and take 10 minutes out of your day to recenter yourself with a meditation. You can try this Calming Meditation on my podcast. Listen here.

  8. Get outside and go for a walk. Even if it's a bit rainy and miserable, grab a coat and go for a phone free stroll. The fresh air and the stress relieving patterns found only in nature (fractal patterns) will melt that stress and negative energy away and help you soothe your nervous system.

  9. Relax with a Yoga Nidra session. Yoga Nidra is different to meditation and yoga because it is focusing on getting the mind and body into a deep state of relaxation through the use of body scanning.   10. Watch your favourite show that makes you feel good and laugh. Laughter is medicine and instantly shifts our mood. Give this light hearted trick a try and see how you feel.
